The Story and the Fundraiser Idea

Award-winning author, Eve Adamson, has characterized Dachshunds as free and independent thinkers. We have discovered that our Dachshund, Penny, can do amazing sculptures with “special” tissue paper.  Penny is a sweet, rescued “wire-haired” brown Dachshund.  She was found wondering the streets at about 5 years of age.  Her history is a mystery.  We adopted her through a Dachshund rescue organization.  We did not recognize her hidden artistic ability until recently.  Each day, when we return from work, we often find that Penny has created intricate, detailed works of art.  She has two studios for her work and she selects one or the other or both based on her mood and the time she has to herself.  She never works while we are home.  Rather, we have observed, that she prefers to work in private when she is best able to capture her muse.  Penny is modest about her works, never announcing them with eager display or a wagging tail.  Instead, she waits for us to discover them in their full glory and mystery.  Each tissue sculpture is unique and creative, displaying an endless repertoire of genius.  So far, she has worked only with the white tissue medium, using nose, teeth, and claws for special effect.  However, we plan to provide her with multi-color tissue in the near future.  Never did we know that Penny’s studios could look so festive.
We enjoy finding Penny's new works and we try to capture each one in digital picture format. This blog highlights photos of her artistry.

As Penny’s representatives in the human world, we humbly invite readers (on Penny’s behalf, of course) to visit http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/animal-fundraiser/ to sign a petition.  The petition is to support a proposal to the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. to host and display artwork created by animals in a unique “animal artist appreciation” exhibition and fundraiser.  We hope that artwork from many animals will accompany Penny's.  If the exhibition occurs, monetary proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)
